Huautla Mushroom Spores

This mushroom spore strain comes from an area visited by R. Gordon Wasson, the famed ethnomycologist well remembered for his Life magazine article that first introduced the western world to psychotropic mushrooms. It’s been said that when Wasson’s piece appeared in Life Magazine, a pilgrimage was initiated. It’s a fascinating narrative, and learning about this spore strain is a genuine delight. The mature Huautla mushroom in the wild has a yellowish-brown cap, a long and thick pale-colored stem, and when wounded, a blue-green color. At maturity, the gills turn virtually black, and the mushroom spores themselves have a deep purple hue, according to mycologists. This is truly a great strain of spores to study with a microscope.
